Prairie Books and Prairie Images

These two locally owned businesses have been started by two very talented ladies. They are not related except by the fact that they both have Prairie in their names. Prairie books is owned and operated by Nancy Ohnick. She has a great selection of books with local history. She is very knowledgeable on the history of Meade county, and is neat to talk to! Here is her website http://www.prairiebooks.com/ Prairie Images is a photo studio owned by Michelle Ross. It is a couple of miles south of town right on the highway. She has a knack for bringing out the best in a person in their photos. She does photos of families, kids, and senior portraits and probably just about anything else you could need a picture of. Her website is http://www.betterphoto.com/gallery/gallery.asp?mem=58397

Meade Chamber of Commerce

Here is a link to the Meade Chamber of Commerce http://www.meadechamber.com/ where there are links to any business in Meade that has a website up and running. Remember that Meade is a small town and it seems like technology is coming around slowly, so to get in touch with some of the businesses you might have to do it the old fashioned way by phone or by snail mail.

The Dalton Gang Hideout

Meade is home to the Dalton Gang Hideout. You can read more about it and see a lot of pictures here http://www.oldmeadecounty.com/hideout.htm Basically, Eva Dalton Whipple was the Dalton Gangs' sister and she lived in Meade. Years after she left Meade there was a big rain and it washed a lot of dirt out behind her house and they discovered that there was a tunnel to the barn where the Dalton gang probably came and went unnoticed. There is a very nice museum on sight too and they have a nice collection of antique barbwire and a two headed calf! The area that the Dalton Gang Hideout is situated on is one of the prettiest spots in town with a bunch of shade trees. Come check it out sometime.
